Animal Fouling - The Facts
Whether it's your pet or someone else's, cat and dog fouling can cause serious consequences if not dealt with properly - from potential health risks to unnecessary stress and upset.
According to our research whilst being very 'British' with only 11%* of garden owners ever admitting to arguing with neighbors over the neighbor's cats or dogs using the garden as a toilet, 66%* do admit that it really annoys them. This figure increases to three quarters* of the population of non cat or dog owners!
It may surprise you to hear that almost half* of Great Britain's non cat or dog owning population have trodden in animal excrement on their own property.
Nearly half of the population* believe there is nothing that can be done to prevent cats or dogs from using their gardens as a toilet.
Be A Responsible Dog Owner - Reduce The Risk
- Pick up your dog's mess immediately whether you are out walking or in your own garden.
- Keep your dog from fouling areas near where children play.
- Ensure to worm your dog regularly - ideally every 3 to 6 months.

Toxocara / Toxocariasis
Toxocara is the common roundworm found in dogs and cats which can be easily and cheaply treated by regular worming. Toxocara eggs are passed in the faeces of infected animals, sometime contaminating children's hands as they play. If infective eggs are then swallowed, there is a slight possibility of an illness referred to as toxocariasis.
Our research revealed the following facts about Great Britain's awareness of Toxocariasis:
- 62% of those with children are unaware of Toxocariasis
- 62% of garden owners are unaware of Toxocariasis
- Only half of cat and dog owners are aware of Toxocariasis
The Facts About Toxocara leaflet (PDF) has been provided by the Pet Health Council and details the reality about Toxocariasis and how to prevent it.
